Here’s a quick sit-down with the latest exiting contestant, Wilfredo Torres.

Enjoy!

1. I heard we almost lost you before this round. What happened?

An opportunity presented itself that was something I just couldn’t pass up on and I was afraid of spreading myself too thin. Luckily everything worked out.

2. In a competition like this, it is not a case of people NOT liking your stuff, just perhaps liking someone else’s work more. But if you had to guess, what do you think about your pages didn’t click with the audience this week?

I don’t like making excuses for myself but the truth of it is that I over committed myself that weekend and because of that my Idol pages got short changed. I was crunched for time and I had to get creative and change things up a bit – I took a gamble and things didn’t pan out for me. I think the audience and the judges picked up on that.

3. You’ve read the judges comments as well as the public comment thread — did any comments strike you as unfair? Which comments were right on the mark?

I think as far as the judges I got the reactions I was expecting. Some of the comments from the audience were a bit bewildering – in as far as their critiques of my work as well as some of the other contestants but it’s all a matter of opinion so I wouldn’t characterize anything as being unfair.

4. What was the hardest part about the assignment for you?

Well, unlike C.B - High School sucked for me, I didn’t enjoy having to go back to it.

5. My girlfriend actually mentioned to me that she bought a piece of art from you recently. Do you do much commission work?

Awesome! I appreciate it. I haven’t done too much – I’ve recently sold several pieces of original work and that seems to be going pretty well so who knows?

6. Of the remaining contestants, if you had to pick, who do you think has the best shot at going all the way (feel free to be diplomatic and say, “I love them all!”)?

I think the selection committee did a really great job of putting together a very eclectic group of talent and I hope the industry has a place for each of us but if I had to pick one, Jose Holder gets my vote!

7. Are you planning on stopping by and participating in the play-at-home thread, right?

I probably won’t have the time at this point but I’ll definitely be keeping an eye out.

8. Has this encouraged or discouraged you from continuing to pursue your dream as full-time comic artist?

I think Idol was a mixed bag and but just like anything else you have to take the good with the bad. Some days I feel like breaking all my pencils in half but then I remember all the truckloads of ass that I kick and life is good.

9. Finally, take this space to promote the heck out of whatever you would like to promote!

It’s a little soon to get into too much detail but I’ve definitely got some great stuff cooking up so watch my blog (http://mightyfineline.blogspot.com/) for updates on those as they develop. I also update my Comic Galleries (http://www.comicspace.com/mightyfineline/) with sneak peeks of my current projects – you’ve not heard the last of me!!
